Call for Presenters, 2017 TN STEM Innovation Summit



The Tennessee STEM Innovation Summit is intended to showcase innovative strategies to advance STEM integration in the classroom, providing direction on where to start planning and how to grow existing programs. All learning sessions are meant to be interactive and/or hands-on and designed to stimulate thinking across a broad range of subject areas and grade levels.

This year’s theme, Connecting Classrooms to the World, allows us to explore how schools are integrating content into real-world settings, infusing unique business partnerships into the classroom, and providing experiential learning opportunities for students to more fully investigate the world around them through foundations in STEM education. It is vital that our classrooms connect young people to the knowledge and practices that inspire creative thinkers, innovators, and problem solvers that prepare them to accept the responsibilities of global citizenship in an ever changing world.

The learning sessions are intended to provide attendees opportunities to interact with educational leaders and practitioners who are seeing success with integrating STEM practices in their classrooms and communities. Learning Sessions are to focus on timely, relevant topics centered on one of three focus areas:

  • Effective STEM Educators – What are Tennessee teachers doing today that are best practices in STEM teaching and learning that can be shared and replicated by others?
  • Effective STEM Leaders – How have school and/or district leaders made strategic investments in STEM education and made it a focal point for their organizations? What strategies are undertaken at the school-building level to foster an environment for STEM teaching and learning?
  • Community Engagement – What strategies, initiatives, or events have fostered collaboration among educators, business partners, and the community to strengthen STEM education that can serve as models for communities across the state?

Guidelines for sessions:

  1. All sessions are to be 45 minutes in length with interactions and Q&A for approximately 75+/- participants.
  2. All sessions are to have 1 to 2 presenters. Please no panel sessions.
  3. All sessions are to be interactive and/or hands-on.
  4. Participants should walk away from the session with the knowledge and/or tools to begin taking action in their local settings.
  5. This application is not intended for vendors who are interested in promoting their product or service. Please see the vendor guidelines for sponsored sessions (Gold Exhibitor package).

All proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Is the proposed session relevant to the conference theme?
  • Is the proposed session relevant to a conference area of focus (educators, leaders, community engagement)?
  • Does the proposed session have applicability to the intended audience?
  • Does the proposed session have an interactive focus?
  • Does the proposed session demonstrate ideas or activities with proven effectiveness?
  • Does the proposal clearly describe the session?
  • Is the proposed session topic timely/appropriate?

Selected learning session presenters receive free registration to both days of the conference.  Selected presenters that have previously purchased a ticket to the Innovation Summit will receive a refund or be given the option of transferring the registration to a colleague.
