Sampling Trees & Engaging Math to Explore Forest Ecology

March 4, 2016 @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm

Join Warner Park Nature Center and the TN Division of Forestry as we explore and compare a secondary growth forest with an undisturbed (“old growth”) forest. This experiential workshop targeted for Middle and High School teachers will help educators develop a deeper understanding of the dynamics of forest ecology. During the workshop, teachers will:

  • Take tree measurements with simple tools
  • Use mathematical grids to sample forest plots
  • Hike in the Hill Forest (newly-designated State Natural Area) while actively learning relevant vocabulary.
