Spring has returned to Tennessee and students at Innovation Academy in Kingsport, TN took advantage of the creek on campus for their Eco-Friendly Unit. Interdisciplinary Agriculture Unit at Innovation Academy

Cross-curricular learning is in full swing at Innovation Academy of Northeast Tennessee.

As part of a unit on the science of agriculture, eighth graders at Innovation Academy constructed and filled raised bed gardens. With the help of the UT Agriculture Extension, students were taught how to construct the beds and what mixture of sand and compost would produce the best results.

Last week, students from Innovation Academy of Northeast Tennessee, a platform school of the TSIN, visited the Erwin National Fish Hatchery. Students toured the hatchery and learned about the habitat and life cycle of rainbow trout. Finally, the students got to feed the trout in their outside pond. Last week, students at Innovation Academy of Northeast Tennessee, a STEM Platform School of the TSIN, had a very special visit from Todd Barber of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab. Barber discussed the Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter missions, answering questions from students and expanding their curiosity about space exploration.
